Honorary Chairperson & Ultra-Marathoner
Debra Horn with Lucy

"I'm proud to be able to provide support

and encouragement to all our Virtual Runners."   ~Debbie

Join Debra Horn, US National 24-Hour Team member and premier ultra-runner, in using race miles to increase epilepsy awareness and outreach.  Lucy, the daughter of her friend and running partner, was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was two-years-old.  Lucy and her family struggled for over a year, with Lucy averaging 70 seizures in a single day. Today, through a combination of medication and diet, Lucy has been seizure-free for the last year.   By witnessing Lucy’s experience, Debbie was inspired to use running as a way to help the Epilepsy Association increase its services to individuals with epilepsy and their families.

As the Virtual Runner’s honorary chairperson, Debbie will race 200 miles on behalf of the Epilepsy Association starting August 1st through November 8th.  Debbie is a seasoned marathoner and a nationally recognized athlete. Debbie has been named to the US National 24-Hour Team for three straight years and competed in May 2009 at the World 24-Hour Championships in Bergamo, Italy.  In Italy, Debbie covered 128.8 miles in 24 hours helping the US women’s team take the silver medal.

In June, Debbie competed in the FANS 12-Hour Race in Minnesota, running over 70 miles and taking second place overall and first place female. This October, Debbie will compete in the North Coast 24-Hour race in Cleveland, site of the US 24-Hour National Championships where every mile she covers will be run on behalf of the Virtual Runner. Debbie is not a professional runner. She’s an accomplished litigation attorney (a partner at Meyers, Roman in Cleveland).  She’s a professional leader (a past president and board member of both the Ohio Women’s Bar Association and the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations).  She is an avid curler (think ice not hair). She’s a practiced apiarist (beekeeper).  And now, like every Virtual Runner, she’s an advocate for epilepsy awareness and outreach.
